Pair of barbotine ceramic vases; they are beautifully embellished with elaborate hand-painted floral decorations; the handles are very personal and delightful; the shape is unusual and eccentric; the colors are vibrant and the finish is brilliant, even the interior is painted. The technique used in the decoration of this type of pottery, very fashionable from the second half of the 19th century until the 1930s, consisted in the application of semi-liquid clay, by means of a special syringe or a brush, on the object not yet dry, in order to obtain a decoration in relief that was subsequently finished and painted; the colors were obtained by mixing metal oxides with enamel. The two vases show on the bottom the marks of the Onnaing factory in France; Onnaing's terracotta is a production founded in 1821, it was initially a new factory of the Belgian factory Nimy; at the end of the 19th century the company is dedicated exclusively to the "Barbotine", typically French, real masters of art model the clay creating exclusive and particular models, making the Onnaing factory famous in the world. In 1867 a new Universal Exhibition was organized in Paris where the great French manufacturers presented a vast selection of Barbotines ceramics on their stands, achieving incredible success, surpassing even the English ones. The company stopped during the First World War, reopened at the end of 1918, and closed definitively in 1938. The marks on the bottom of the vases: the coat of arms of the city, the number of the design "488", "Frie Onnaing" and "France" indicate with certainty that they were produced at the beginning of 1921. The two vases are exceptional from the aesthetic point of view, real jewels, the contrast between the various colors that characterizes them is simply fascinating, their whimsical shape and exclusive will be able to customize any environment of the house.
