We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. French natural wicker basket; this is an old bakery bread basket, used to rest the bread dough before baking and afterward to hold the famous crispy "baguettes"; originally surely lined with white linen fabric; was made in the Parisian suburbs between 1930 and 1935 by some small artisan who used and hand-woven natural wicker in a really exemplary way, creating also a pleasant pattern; the whole structure is very compact and solid, built with wooden sticks on which the wicker was worked; on the shorter sides are integrated the two sturdy handles; under the basket, two wooden planks were placed longitudinally to give strength to the whole structure and also to facilitate the sliding of the basket on the floor. Although it originated as a bread basket, its uses can be varied: large laundry basket, great for a storage room, interesting accessory for an eclectic or traditional kitchen, toy holder in the children's room, practical newspaper holder for a country-style living room, pleasant wood holder by the fireplace; but it will be your imagination that will determine its most suitable use for your home decor. Wicker is an all-time evergreen; this material is made by weaving branches of willow or other plants. The elasticity and strength of willow wicker have always made it ideal for making baskets and canisters. The origins of wicker are very old; in fact, this material has accompanied mankind even before the discovery of weaving and pottery in its history. It is probably one of the oldest craft productions known to man. In fact, since the Neolithic period wickerwork was used as containers given its ease of construction. Even in the Middle Ages, the first guilds were formed, and by the end of the last century, wickerwork became a true specialized industry. It is, without a doubt, a tradition whose fascination lies in creating true works of art from such a poor material as pruning branches. The baguette is a type of bread characterized by an elongated shape, a crisp crust, and a soft, developed crumb that is made by slow, natural leavening. The classic French baguette is about 65/70 cm long 5 or 6 cm wide and about 3 or 4 cm high. For these reasons, the baguette is a type of bread that is unlikely to be confused with other types of bread and rolls. Over time, the baguette has become one of the symbols of France. The basket is in excellent condition. Measures width cm.78, depth cm.52, height cm.40. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
