Elegant Napoleonic period frame with a central mirror, four mirrors on the sides, and rich ornaments; was made with brass decorations worked with repoussé (embossing = a technique for detecting drafts, figures, or pre-established drawings on the surface of sheet metal using a hammer and rounded punches on the back); the elaborate decorations are in French rococo style with flowers, fruits, and rocailles; the embossed slabs have been handcrafted to a wooden back; the mirrors are a very important part, in fact, was made with the ancient technique of mercury, which consisted in laying the metal over a series of layers of tin flattened on the glass, the mercury was then smoothed and polished with a special stone and buffered, the mixture thus obtained was called "live silver". This technique was developed by the Venetian Master Glassmakers (Maestro Dal Gallo 1507); the Venetian Republic placed the work in secret, but over time it leaked from the city and spread to European countries, first and foremost France: the Mirror Gallery in the Castle of Versailles is decorated with hundreds of mercury mirrors! The imperfections of our mirrors, the small spots, and their veiled surface patina, attest to their antiquity and authenticity. A highly decorative work that can be placed in any room of the house, in fact, the mirror has the ability to transform a room, giving character and creating interesting and engaging perspective illusions. Handcrafted in France between 1852 and 1855. Cm. 65 x 34 x 4. Internal mirror cm. 29 x 20.
