Pair of black and white ceramic candlesticks made in Rockabilly style; the colors are strong and decisive, the black that tends to blue, has the peculiarity of having beautiful opalescent reflections, reflections that unfortunately the photos can not capture, from life are really seductive; the shape is pleasantly wavy, nice and very special; each of them has two candleholders; under the base, there is a number that identifies the model, as was often used for French ceramic products since the late '800; the candlesticks were produced between 1958 and 1960, by skilled artisans in the area of Vallauris, the "French city of ceramics" in Provence north-east of Cannes, renowned since ancient times for the production of this fascinating material; there were more than 250 production centers, but today very few remain and since the mid-twentieth century they have been dedicated to the manufacture of contemporary ceramics. The word "Rockabilly" is a combination of "rock and roll" and "hillbilly" (a derogatory term used to define the Appalachian mountain people and, in a generic sense, meant country boor); Rockabilly was a musical genre developed in the early 50s, it was one of the first forms of rock & roll. It was a fusion of bluegrass, country, boogie-woogie, and jazz, originally from the southern United States and was played and sung by artists such as Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and many others. This genre had a huge influence not only in music but in fashion and the lifestyle of young Americans; it didn't take long for this "culture" to spread around the world in an overbearing and rampant way. A lot of production of all kinds in those fabulous '50s and ‘60s (cars, gifts, jewelry, furniture, accessories, tableware, etc.) was inspired by the Rockabilly style. Our candlesticks with their bright colors and eccentric shape are a characteristic example and will stand out in any type of furniture with originality and vitality. Measures width cm.21, depth cm.8, height cm.16.
