Art Deco Sculpture by Louis Riché France
This is an Art Deco sculpture by the French artist Louis Riché (1877 Paris - 1949). Earthenware in three colors glaze. Beautiful patine, no cracks or chips. The glaze is slightly pale around the neck (see pictures 7 and 8). Depth 8.66 in. (22 cm), width 20.86 in. (53 cm), height 13.38 inches (34 cm). Riché made mostly bronze statues, glazed earthenware sculptures are very rare. Louis Riché had his first exhibit at the Salon in Paris was in 1896 at the age of nineteen. Riché sculpted many animals subjects but his favorite models were German Shepherd dogs at which he is considered the master at reproducing. Except for the interruptions of both World Wars he continued to create his artistic subjects.
