LINK: https://www.antichitacastelbarco.it/it/prodotto/francois-hubert-drouais--ritratto-dama-francese Drouais was born in Paris, son of the painter Hubert Drouais (1699 - 1767), famous for his miniature portraits and his first teacher, while later he was a pupil of Boucher, Natoire and Carle van Loo, from whom he absorbed the refined and elegant style . One of the most significant portraitist of his time, as well as Nattier's successor as the principal portraitist at the court of Louis XV, he portrayed most of the prominent figures of his era, including the king and his two most famous mistresses, Marchesa de Pompadour and the Countess Dubarry, soon becoming the favorite of the court and the high aristocracy. The portraits of him are among the most elegant artistic testimonies of the second half of the eighteenth century in France, and thanks to his refined technique he became one of the most important portrait painters of his time, characterized by the spontaneity of female faces and the elegance of dress up. The woman, with a regal bearing, is dressed in the most traditional 'French fashion' of the eighteenth century, with a light blue silk dress with a wide décolleté and jabote cuffs, embellished with decorated lace. Her neck is wrapped in a necklace made up of a double round of pearls matching the earrings, while her hair, gathered in a hairstyle that highlights her facial features, is adorned with a floral decoration. The lady seems to undo the lace bow placed on the décolleté, with an elegant but somewhat mischievous gesture of her hands, which somehow makes her portrait more intimate and less formal. Noteworthy is the beauty with which the features of her face have been defined, simply refined, which emphasize her noble character, while she intently stares at the viewer in an austere but sweet way at the same time. The painter's brush gives us back a young woman aware of her own beauty, without ostentation but with an elegant self-confidence; only the great portrait painters are able to convey such definite sensations. Excellent state of conservation. Minimal retouches, scattered on the surface (an infrared photo can be consulted in detail). The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law. For any additional information, you are welcome to contact us.
