Original and valuable Austrian table in walnut briar, was made between 1929 and 1932 in a small carpenter's workshop in Abtenau, an Austrian town in the district of Hallein near Salzburg, in the small town there were several woodworking shops and even today produces one of the most important Austrian furniture factories the company Voglauer. Very special is the entire structure of the table, the two side panels that support the top are elegantly connected in the lower part to a truly original and unique base, rarely have we found this ingenious and sophisticated solution in other similar tables, beautiful and fascinating is the top made of walnut briar of exceptional quality, quality enhanced by unique and special processing "la lastronatura”. (Warning. The exact term is Italian "lastronatura" untranslatable into English (maybe "slab"), in fact, "lastronatura" is very different and older than wood veneer, read the explanation below). “Lastronatura” is a craft technique that spread throughout Europe as early as the sixteenth century and remained unchanged until the mid-nineteenth century before the Industrial Revolution, then resumed in the early twentieth century for luxury furniture, especially in France and Italy;it consisted of hand-cutting the trunks of noble wood (walnut, mahogany, briar, walnut-burr, etc.) with ancient saws in so many layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6 millimeters, which were then applied to furniture for decorative purposes; the finishing of this procedure was very complex:the wood layer was treated with natural earth dissolved in water for the desired shade, it was aged with stone, fixed with a shellac applied with a brush and finally polishing was performed in 12 steps with a cotton pad soaked in shellac, straw oil with pumice stone powder.“Lastronatura” should not be confused with veneering which is a very modern process, in fact the layer of wood is cut by machine and the thickness is below 1 mm., while that of the “lastronatura”, as already mentioned, is from 4 to 6 mm. This technique has allowed us to enhance the colors and the flaming of the walnut root giving our table elegance and unique and exclusive refinement.
