An exceptional and rare French chinoiserie table, in lacquered wood and gold decorations beautifully hand-painted; the scene represents a rich chariot drawn by two horses covered with elegant ornaments, guided by a character whose important clothing is one of a court of a dignitary, followed and escorted by an armed servant on foot; the particularity of the entire design is amazing. The charm of the exotic and the ethnic has always represented something important for Western culture. In the seventeenth to the nineteenth century, in Europe, we witness an incredible rise in popularity of Chinese art, especially with regard to objects, furniture, and furnishings, this period was characterized by the use of imaginative images of an imaginary China. The French term "Chinoiserie" is coined and diffused at that time, to indicate the attempts at imitation of Chinese porcelain, pottery, and furniture characterized by gilded and lacquered decorations. The "chinoiserie" can complete and enrich classic and modern environments. The shapes, the figures, and the colors create pleasant and refined atmospheres and our coffee table can be an elegant touch for a home that expresses its passion for distant and exotic worlds. Made in France between 1870 and 1875 by Master craftsmen with truly exceptional skill. Measure D.cm.66, H. cm.69.
