Gracious oak stool; the legs, tapering shape and grooved, are joined to the base by a well-drawn and structured X-shaped element; very particular, and performed with masterful craftsmanship, are the decorations on the wood that enrich the stool; the elegant seat is performed in "Vienna straw". This work, which uses equidistant holes and woven plant material (drawn cane of India), was known since the time of the Egyptians (a stool was found in the tomb of the architect Kha dating back to 1600 B. C.), but it has been successful around the world since the mid-1800s. It was the Austro-Hungarian cabinetmaker Michael Thonet (father of bentwood) who in 1842 created the chair nr.4 for the Daum coffee on the Kohlmarkt in Vienna with this technique, but success came in 1859, when the company Gebruder Thonet of Michael’s sons, presented the chair no.14 in curved solid wood with a straw seat: the famous "Vienna straw chair", today listed among the icons of the history of design, which soon spread throughout the world and took the name of the headquarters of the famous Austrian company. Legend has it that, on the occasion of the Paris Expo of 1867, the chair No. 14 by Michael Thonet fell from the Eiffel Tower, from a height of 57 meters, remaining intact. Our stool, Louis XVI style, was manufactured in France in 1880-1890. Measures: 52 x 38 H. 53
