SILVER AUSTRIAN GORGEOUS TRAVELLING SET OF DISHES & FLATWARE / OF MOST ELEGANT APPEARANCE. PARTICULAR FEATURE: One-off production / special design in original casket, once having owned by Countess Wanda Antonia von Sandizell – Lamberg (1867 – 1937) / manufactured 1895 = there is a metal plaque attached to casket's lid with referring name and date. - The countess gave birth to her son Carl Max von und zu Sandizell (died 1962) in year 1895 - possibly this splendid set is a gift of her husband Count Carl Theodor von und zu Sandizell (1865 - 1939), member of an old Bavarian noble dynasty. MANUFACTORY: Famous Viennese silver manufactory JOSEF CARL KLINKOSCH (hallmarked). Original wooden casket with original interior decoration. THERE IS NAME OF MANUFACTORY VISIBLE AT INNER SIDE OF LID (impressed with golden letters): Coats of arms of manufactory with Austrian Imperial Double Eagle (= purveyor to the Imperial Household) & J.C. Klinkosch / Vienna. MANUFACTURED 1895. Made of SILVER 800: 1. branded by Viennese Diana's Head Mark (1867-1922) + 3 (= which means SILVER 800). 2. initials of manufactory existing: J.C.K. (firm JOSEF CARL KLINKOSCH). 3. sign of silversmith visible, too: M-S. Bibliography: Waltraud Neuwirth, Wiener Gold-und Silberschmiede und ihre Punzen (= Viennese Gold-and Silversmiths and their signs), vol. I , Vienna 1976, pages 295 - 301 and vol. II (page 372). Carl Klinkosch had owned the silver manufactory "Mayerhofer & Klinkosch", having been founded in the year 1830 by Stephan Mayerhofer and Carl Klinkosch: The manufactory Mayerhofer & Klinkosch had been one of the most successfull silver manufactories of Old Imperial Austria. There was a change in the year 1869 when the son Josef Carl Klinkosch became single owner of manufactory - therefore firm's name was changed into: "Gold-, Silber- und Metallwaren-Fabrik J. C. Klinkosch". But firm's success remained the same: Josef Carl Klinkosch worked very often under the authority (per order) of Austrian Emperor as his father had done. Many of Klinkosch's works are kept safe in former Viennese Imperial Castle (in so-said 'Hofsilber- und Tafelkammer' of Viennese Castle). This silver set consists of dishes as well as of cutlery / flatware: DISHES: two soup bowls with dome-shaped lid | drinking glass cup with silver dome-shaped lid | glass bowl with silver dome-shaped lid | bowl with handle | small bowl for spices | eggcup | oval serving platter | dinner plate | dessert plate | silver saucer of glass beaker | silver saucer of bowl with handle. CUTLERY / FLATWARE: appetizer cutlery, consisting of spoon, knife and fork | dinner cutlery, consisting of spoon, knife and fork | dinner cutlery, consisting of knife and fork | ladle with handle | knife for butter | coffee spoon | mocha spoon | spoon for spices. MEASURES OF WOODEN CASKET: height 9.44 inches / width 15.74 inches / depth 14.17 inches. Items of this set are manufactured in most elegant style of Viennese Historicism (= similar to Victorian Style): Stunning decorations made in chasing work existing - they consist of floral ornaments (flower's blossoms with leaves and acanthus leaves) / beyond that, the lids are topped with sculptured flower's blossoms with leaves. The glass parts are decorated with etched ornaments - these ones having equal appearance to ornaments visible on silver surfaces, therefore they are amazingly matching to silver items !
