Conus Pendant by Jorgen Wolff for Torben Orskov

€1.200,00

Conus pendant by Jorgen Wolff for Torben Orskov, Denmark. Dimensions: height 23.6 in. (60 cm), diameter 8.7 inches (22 cm). Materials: Oregon pine; metal and plastic (suspension system). Fully original suspension system. Small spot of discoloration on the shade (see last two pictures). Founded in 1953 Torben Orskov was arguably the first modern design label in the world. Just like it’s slightly younger Italian counterpart Danese, the Orskov Company focussed on the production of small household objects and accessories. By engaging prominent Danish designers like Jorn Utzon, Henning Koppel and Finn Juhl, Orskov managed to build up a diverse and exquisite product range. The design and production of the Conus lamp was entrusted to Jorgen Wollf. Being a descendant of a dynasty of furniture makers, Wolff constructed a smooth and thin conical shade out of segments of Oregon pine wood. Wolff’s joinery skills didn’t go unnoticed, as the Conus pendant was exhibited at the 1959 edition of the Københavns Snedkerlaug's udstilling (The Copenhagen Cabinet-maker’s Guild Exhibition). Literature: Grete Jalk (ed.) Dansk Møbelkunst gennem 40 aar: Vol. 4, 1957-1966, (Teknologisk Instituts Forlag 1987), p. 106-107.
