Originally this lamp was a petroleum lamp, over time the mechanism with the wick was removed in order to electrify it and give it another aesthetic purpose; the base is gilded bronze that time has slightly aged, but made more interesting; the body is fine French porcelain (" Porcelain de Paris"); the exceptional central decoration is entirely hand-painted with meticulous care even in the details, it represents two graceful maidens of the Greco-Roman era who devote themselves to the care of their hair, the whole design stands out in a fascinating way on the bottom of the white pig: a small work of art! The decoration is only on the front of the lamp, on the back are painted only some small intertwined branches. The lamp was made between 1870 and 1873 respecting ancient traditions and the raw material (kaolin) by master craftsmen. “Porcelain de Paris” is a term that refers collectively to the various porcelain decorating workshops and studios within and around Paris, France. It is not the name of any single company or producer and is usually applied to craft objects of excellent workmanship produced between the mid and late nineteenth century. The makers are in some cases obscure and generally unknown or have created only a few and rare pieces. Antique porcelain objects from Paris are the most desired by collectors and are present in many museums around the world. The lamp comes without a lampshade, so everyone can choose the color in a personal way to match their decor. Warning: the electrical system is new but the wiring is European, the compatibility of the voltage in other states must always be verified by an electrician before use. Measures height cm.36, diameter cm.15.
