€30.000,00
Tile production of Lisbon, Baroque period (first half of century XVIII) representing a hunting scene with knights, servants, dogs and deer.
Hunting was one of the essential activities of nobleman for their support as an armed force of the King, serving at the same time as a form of representation of the power of the noble family. Tile panels with hunting figuration's are one of the most frequent themes in Palaces and Noble Houses, and tile painters used engravings to support figuration on a mural scale. Of these engravings the most celebrated is the Venationes Ferarum, Avis, Piscis. etc. which was published in Antwerp in 1634, a collection of engravings by Adrian Collaert, under the design of Giovanni Stradanus (Jan van der Straet). This panel was adapted to the shape of a staircase wall, using a tilted frieze for the purpose.
