Design & manufactory: designed by GEORGES DE FEURE (1868 - 1943)
Georges de Feure (= Georges Joseph van Sluijters 1868 – 1943), born in Paris and son of a Dutch architect, was painter and designer, having worked in style of symbolism as well as of Art Nouveau. De Feure was student of Fine Arts in Amsterdam during the eighties of 19th century, having left the Netherlands then for moving to Paris: He worked there as independent artist. De Feure presented his works of art for example at the 'Exposition Universelle' de Paris in year 1900. The artist was active in the field of furniture, newspapers, theater designs and posters. It should not be forgotten to mention that De Feure was nominated Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur for having created his designs of the decorative arts.
made by ANTONIN DAUM (1864 - 1930)
Antonin Daum was engineer and French businessman - having founded together with his brother Auguste (1853 - 1909) the glass manufactory Daum Frères in Nancy (region Grand-Est / Lorraine).
Technique Of Manufacture:
Cameo Vase With Frieze Decoration In Etched/cut Relief Technique:
Casing Glass & Etched As Well As Cut (built up with different colored layers)
Daum Nancy Vase Shaped As Cylinder Having Shoulder / Slightly Hoisted Round Mouth / Round Foot
Excellently manufactured cameo (casing) glass of multi-layered type (= pink coloured glass underneath / dark purple shaded layers above - visible at top area as well as at area below). Stunning decorations depicting figurines (being dark purple shaded, too), made in cut as well as in etched technique, covering vase's surface like a frieze running around: These are female figurines - bare-breasted ladies with the dress billowing out, some of them wearing hat and further two jumping dogs - connected to each other by stylized ribbons, all of them covering vase's surface in most decorative manner. A very special feature is these figurines' expressionism which already goes beyond pure Art Nouveau. - The vase is based on round foot which reverse side is signed by manufactory Daum. Smooth edge of mouth existing.
