We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and distinctive round crystal centerpiece; its overall shape is simple and decisive, skillfully proportioned, the result of intelligent aesthetic reflection; it has been made from the highest quality lead crystal thick enough to be ground deeper than normal, which allows light to reflect in a much brighter and more brilliant manner; in order for this to happen, the geometry of the grinding was also specially designed and executed; instead of equipping the centerpiece with simple and ordinary feet, the Master Glassmakers created a series of protuberances under the top around the entire circumference, thus giving the object originality and stability. The centerpiece was completely hand-cut and hand-ground with simple and linear geometric decoration but with high-quality craftsmanship. The centerpiece was produced between 1950 and 1955 in Nancy, France, by the Daum Company, whose mark can be found on the bottom of the object. The piece is characterized by its unmistakably modern form and is a testament to Daum's forward-thinking vision and superior glassmaking techniques that made them one of the most indelible names of the 20th century. The Daum glassworks was founded in 1878 in Nancy, France, by Jean Daum (1825-1885). Upon his death, his sons, Auguste Daum (1853-1909) and Antonin Daum (1864-1931), oversaw the company's growth to an excellent degree and quickly became a major force in the Art Nouveau movement, seriously rivaling Gallé, In 1906 Daum brought glass paste, an ancient Egyptian method of glass fusing, back into vogue and developed and perfected the process, creating magnificent and original objects. In 1937 the manufactory participated in the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques in Paris with monochrome glass works increasingly stripped of decoration and with a new line of colorless grindstone-carved crystals with facets that refract light or are completely smooth. Deported by the Nazis, Paul Daum did not return. When he reopens in 1945, the signature management duties are taken over by Henri Daum (1889-1960) Paul's brother, Michel Daum (b. 1900), Antonin's son, and grandsons Jacques Daum and Antoine Froissart. This began the era of transparent white crystal with endless harmonious shapes, pulled by twisting and pincer-worked and shaped by hand, cut, and ground, in the style later called the "1950s"; our centerpiece was created in this lively and innovative period. Daum still uses this workmanship to produce its objects today. Great artists have collaborated on the French company's works from Dali, Cèsar, Roger Tallon, Arman, Hilton McConnico, and many others. With 140 years of creation, Daum continues to write its own history and that of crystal. The item is in very good condition. Measurements diameter cm.41, height cm.8. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
