A French 18th century large polychrome Faïence lidded soup toureen or entree dish with scallop-shaped edges attributable to Rouen manufacture.
This lovely majolica centerpiece has plenty of hand painted nature- inspired decorations featuring the sign of prosperity, a double Cornucopia, blooming flowers, blossoms, butterflies and birds, rendered in a typical polychrome palette of colors composed of green, blue, iron red and mustard yellow on a white background. Two handles decorated with painted stylized insects.
The dome shaped lid of this wonderful glazed ceramic bowl features a knob on top in the
form of a flower.
A fancy, whimsical and spring- themed item to add in your table décor or pottery collection or to use as a colorful centrepiece on a chest or console.
Very good overall condition considering age and use, perfect structural condition, slight chipping only on some points along the edges that let glimpse the clay and give the charm of time to this lovely vitrine object. Original patina. It has no visible marks but the high end painted decorations and patterns allow us to attribute this earthenware piece to Rouen manufacture.
