Exceptional and massive Italian silver tray titled 800 thousandths; the shape is elegant with soft and balanced lines; the edge has been shaped in a clever way to give strength to the whole tray; the handles, valuable and refined, are of fusion finished minutely to chisel, the baroque decorations to rocailles, wisely placed on the edge, are also of fusion but with a chiseling still more detailed; On the back, there is the mark "800" to indicate the title of the silver and the manufacturer's mark "29 VC"; we can thus state with an exactitude that the tray is from the Fabbrica Argenteria F.lli Borzoni (Via V.Alfieri 21 Vercelli- Piemonte-Italy) and that, examining the workmanship, the style, and the manufacture, it was produced between 1950 and 1955. The F.lli Borzoni Factory was one of the most important silversmiths in Vercelli, active with a registered trademark from 09.09.1935 to 31.12.1971; their production of silverware was of the highest level and very rich, especially with regard to the elegant table trays, vases of various sizes, risers, mugs, napkin rings, bottle holders, appetizers, candlesticks, baskets, jugs, fruit bowls, coffee services. The city of Vercelli was a very active and important center for the production of silverware and filigree jewelry; between 1770 and 1871, the year of the unification of Italy, more than eighty stores with their own brand were active in Vercelli, which for more than two centuries, from the 18th to the 20th century, brought the city to the highest levels of artistic and handicraft production in Italy; in the last two decades, then, manufactures that looked to a market that now crossed regional borders to reach beyond the Alps took off. The greatest example is that of the Sambonet Company, which in the course of the 20th century, once the artisan adventure of the Vercelli goldsmiths was over, became one of the most important silversmith industries in Italy and the world.
