Flower basket Ca. 1905, Nickel plated brass. The perforated ornamentics called "Gitterwerk" are amongst the most popular designs made by Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstatte. The rectangular decoration is instantly associated with the Viennese Secession, the Wiener Jugendstil and every major Art Nouveau Museum in the world has one or two objects with this decoration in their inventory. Josef Hoffmann designed this flower vase before 1906 and its shape is clearly influenced by the works of Koloman Moser. These vases rarely make it into the free art market and a piece with the genuine glass inlay is even rarer. It has the genuine glass insert as well as perfect marks at the bottom of the object.
