Graceful and harmonious ashtray of a beautiful green color with black streaks and gold speckles; the ashtray has four soft curves on the rim that make the object particularly attractive and original. The object was handcrafted in a small glassworks in Murano (Italy) between 1960 and 1963. The object was made by mouth-blowing the glass mass that came out of the furnace with a special rod, giving it an initial sketched shape, then metal oxides of copper and chromium were added to the body of the molten glass to achieve the green coloring with all its shades and manganese dioxide with a special formulation for the streaks of black. At the moment judged right to the artisan's expert eye, he proceeded to put into the mass he was blowing, a gold foil that immediately broke down and, proceeding with the blowing, dispersed in the mixture giving rise to a gold dust effect; with this system, a shining powder was formed within the glass itself that discreetly embellished the created object. Next the craftsman hot molded the ashtray with special fascinating tools to give it the desired shape, then did a quick annealing in the furnace to evenly amalgamate all the material, then the piece was placed in the tempering furnace where it cooled for many hours with skillful slowness and patience; then, completely free of heat, it was taken to the milling department where expert artisans proceeded to sand, finish and finally polish it; a small work of art created with magical mastery and unparalleled skill by a great master craftsman in a magical, fascinating and artistic place: a handcrafted furnace in Murano. The making of this object confirms to us that the Venetian aptitude, celebrated over the centuries, for glassmaking, is an alchemical combination of liquid matter worked out by artisan intelligences with happy artistic insights.
