Rare Chinese Painted Leather Camphor Wood Trunk
€2.420,00
Rare antique 'one of a kind' storage trunk.
Camphor wood lined with leather hand painted on all four sides with classic chinoiserie scenes of women, trees, pavilions etc.
Trunks and storage chests were the most ubiquitous form of household storage throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties. Used to store clothes, linens, kitchen utensils, and other miscellaneous items
as the camphor wood kept moths away.
From Danish private collection.
China c. 1900.
I have traveled in China for more than 26 years and never seen a kimono chest so beautifully decorated like this one - Mads Holst
