We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Unique and particular majolica plate/centerpiece; the plate, titled "City of Vases "was executed between 1990 and 1992 by artist Gian Luigi Costa who printed the plate by hand on a plaster mold, after the first firing, the skilled decorator Raffaella Costa executed the original design on white enamel. After the second cooking at 960 degrees, he added the third-fire colored lustres, with the final cooking at 700 degrees. The dish is one piece. After completing their apprenticeship in Albissola in the workshop of sculptor Sandro Soravia, Raffaella and Gian Luigi Costa opened their atelier "Costa Ceramiche d'Arte in Gandria, on Lake Lugano in Switzerland in October 1982; the tiny village of Gandria (population 278) unchanged for more than a hundred years, is a place of nostalgia, joined Lugano in 2004. Their plan from the beginning is to safeguard traditional craftsmanship by strictly handcrafting their objects with the ancient majolica technique, creating them with distinct originality, artistry, and beauty. Gian Luigi is in charge of the turning while his wife Raffaella is in charge of the decoration Rare factor that characterizes their ceramics is the use of three processing techniques -- lathe, casting, and sheet on mold -- and three types of finished material: porcelain, majolica, and stoneware. Even rarer, nowadays, is decoration done by hand, often with enamel technique and polished effect They have long since added the third-fire technique to their workmanship, achieving the effect of mother-of-pearl with metallic lustres fired at 700 degrees. Variety and experimentation enrich their series that change, evolve, renew and surprise. Skill and patience, in such a craft, become a fundamental and characterizing combination, as these objects require long workmanship. The ultimate realistic mission of these two splendid artists is to bring art into everyone's homes, everyday applied art that is valuable and accessible. They have participated in exhibitions and competitions of Swiss ceramists with unique art pieces, sculptures, and bas-reliefs. Measures diameter cm.30, height cm.3. The plate is in excellent condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
