These Italian 20th century neoclassical style mythological scenes tempera on wood panels paintings are a gorgeous decorative wall elements. On a rectangular wooden panel the black background enhances the masterfully hand painted figures and the splendid and rich natural and whimsical details of these mythological scenes rendered in a very classic style and housed in a wonderful custom made burl wood frames finished with a black ebonized wood band on the outside and gilt beaded on the inside. One painting represents Demeter, symbol of Mother Earth, sister of Zeus, in Greek mythology is the goddess of wheat and agriculture, creator of the cycle of seasons, of life and death, protector of the harvest and sacred laws. Demeter gave mankind the knowledge of agricultural techniques. Here Cerere is represented on an ancient chariot drawn by snakes while victorious holds in her hand a vase full of fruits and ears of wheat. The subject of the second painting depicts a neoclassical mythological scene as well but it is unknown to me.
