Beautiful coffee table designed by Raf Verjans in Belgium, circa 1970. The tables has a solid black wooden base. On top of that rests the black metal frame that has been filled with concrete. The aluminium and brass mosaic details on the tabletop have been laid into the concrete by hand. This makes the table a truly unique piece with a beautiful, luxurious appearance. An aluminium inlaid mosaic coffee table by the Belgian designer artist Raf Verjans. In good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Raf Verjans is a Belgium sculptor and goldsmith. He studied at the L’Ecole des métiers d’art at the Maredsous Abbaye in in Belgium, where he gratuated in 1956. His work was during this study was very inspired by Christianity, as tought by the school. He won several awards for it. since 1965 he specializes in working with bronze, gold and metal. He also tried different themes for his work, besides Christianity. Verjans likes to experiment with different materials. From 1967 he got involved in many different projects, including the design of many play objects for children.
