Carved in a single piece of solid rough rock, this Italian Louis XV style vessel washbasin was made with the finest and the most durable stone carved in a lovely shell form. This white sandstone has always been produced in Italy, mostly in Rome and Florence, employed as ornaments and architectonic decorations; a sought after Italian stone known for its rich coloration of garnet, white, and different shades of beige. This versatile, multipurpose and well proportioned shell form carved basin features original live edges, natural textured stone both at the exterior and inside. The overall shape is that of a shell form, discreetly decorated with a wide stylized scrolls whilst the large gadrooned lobes come together to a point on the underside. It takes a high level of skill to carve such a hard stone into a wonderful shell shape such as this. Different shades of white and light grey veins due to varied patina from age allows it to go with practically any color scheme. This antique sink will bring beauty to any surface it is placed upon. The basin can be used in a variety of settings and it can be installed directly into a wall, supported by a flat surface or from a discrete support underneath. This organically formed stone washbowl features nice and useful medium size and could be used in many places both indoors and out.
