4 Smoke Dining Chairs by Maarten Baas
€6.200,00
A wonderful set of 4 Smoke dining chairs designed in 2002 by Dutch artist/designer Maarten Baas ( b 1978 ). Firstly Baas “flames” the Louis XV style chairs until they achieve a charcoal like finish and are then treated with an epoxy resin and upholstered with fire retardant foam and leather thus creating an iconic 21st century piece of furniture. Each piece will be slightly different as fire cannot be fully controlled thus making each chair unique. As his work falls between Art and Design in 2009 he was named Designer of the Year at Design Basel/Miami and in 2012 the New York Times listed his “smoke” work in its top 25 Design Classics of the Future. He is in the permanent collections MOMA New York, Victoria and Albert London and many more. These chairs are extremely comfortable and, yes, very safe to sit on as this is their intended end use.
“ In nature everything is in flux, which creates a certain beauty” M. Baas.
