We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. Refined and elegant Austrian Art Deco coffee table in blond walnut; it has a very clean and linear form, aesthetically sought after and pleasing; the round top is supported by curved legs that at the bottom join on a solid cross base giving excellent stability to the whole; on the junction point of the legs a black wooden sphere has been placed that emphasizes even more the Art Deco style of the coffee table. The coffee table was made between 1930 and 1935 in a craft workshop in Riegersburg, a small Austrian municipality in the Südoststeiermark district of Styria, which is famous for furniture production, limited production but of a high standard; the distinguishing element and uniqueness of the coffee table is the wood with which it was veneered: blond walnut. Walnut (Juglans regia) is a valuable and expensive wood, the "blond walnut" variety is much more so; it is characterized by a light color with shades tending to yellow, warm tones, and much more pronounced grain, qualities highly valued in the luxury furniture sector. Blond walnut is a hardwood; its hues, flaming, and grain have been prized for centuries; it is a wood that is unparalleled in its aesthetic appearance; blond walnut furniture is highly sought after but also expensive because the usable wood part in each plant is very scarce. Veneering is an ancient woodworking technique that involves applying a thinner layer of fine wood to a substrate of normal-quality walnut wood; fine walnut wood is harvested from trees grown specifically for this purpose, it is then cut into thin sheets whose thickness varies from 1 to 2 millimeters; the base wood is prepared by applying a special glue then the fine walnut sheets are applied manually and uniformly; after this processing the whole is pressed and allowed to dry, allowing the glue to adhere firmly between the fine walnut wood and the substrate, creating a stable veneer; this once dry is finished with sanding, polishing and the application of protective finishes, such as varnishes or oils, to improve the appearance and durability of the wood. The history of veneering goes back many centuries; it is believed to have been first used in ancient Egypt and China. Over the centuries, this technique has spread throughout the world and has continued to evolve, becoming an important part of the production of high-quality furniture, luxury items, and objets d'art. This ancient technique, applied to our table, has made it possible to enhance the colors, flaming, and grain of fine flamed walnut. The artisans who worked on this coffee table succeeded in creating an extraordinary piece of furniture, refined and compelling, extraordinary and unique, capable of communicating to us suggestions of times past, of tradition and functionality. The object has been hand-restored by our team of craftsmen and is in perfect condition. Measures diameter cm.60, height cm.55.
