A beautiful sideboard, model “Bornholm”, designed by Dutch designer Martin Visser, manufactured by Spectrum the Netherlands around 1950.
This eye-catching piece has a black metal base holding the teak wooden cabinet. The wood has a warm brown colour. The white laminated sliding doors are a nice addition to the design and reveal plenty of storage space. One reveals a shelving unit, the other a combined shelving and drawer unit. In the center there are two open shelves with blurred glass, adding a fantastic decorative value to the piece! All together this versatile sideboard has a unique design and plenty of storage capacity. It’s wonderful modern style will definitely draw the attention in any decor!
It remains in very good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautfiul patina.
Martin Visser has designed furniture his whole life. His early furniture was purchased by De Bijenkorf who hired him in 1947 as a salesman and window dresser, and in 1954 appointed chief procurement. Visser gathered early work of Cobra, and was regarded as the discoverer of Anselm Kiefer and Keith Haring. 400 Works of his art collection are housed in the Kröller-Müller Museum. In 1954 he became head of collection and designer furniture at ‘t Spectrum. In the 1960s he was became very populair with the famous BR02 sleeping sofa. He passed away at the age of 87 in his house, that was famously designed by Gerrit Rietveld.
