Distressed antique rug 11 x 8 ft / 340 x 250 cm carpet Rose Beige Turquoise Blue 1940 s
A wonderful and hard to find distressed rug with an ascending garden design. On a red filed, a pair of date palms, cypress and pomegranate trees are the motives at the lower end of the rug. Above a design with arabesques, flowers and lotus motives decorates this fine piece of Persian art. The borders are also filled with flowers. At the upper end, the rug is signed in all three borders - see third image. Condition The rug has the wonderful low pile and antique look, interior decorators are looking for. It is original aging and not the chemical dying and shaving like seen on most "vintage" rugs. All edges / selvedge are in very good condition. The foundation of this hand-knotted rug is fine spun cotton, the pile material is fine hand spun highland wool. It was made in the 1930s-1940s (almost Midcentury).
