This is a rather beautiful tall French mid-18th century Transition solid cherrywood armoire cupboard with bonnet top (chapeau de gendarme), decorative shaped panels and original brass door furniture and locks. Fitted interior, including three shelves and two drawers drawer, circa 1760. The tall cabinet stands on curved feet. The front part is carved in very Fine classicism floral design. The piece is in excellent condition with a lovely cherrywood patina, the surface is re-waxed. This cabinet would make a nice addition to a bedroom, kitchen or butler's pantry. Measures: Width 140cm (150cm including bonnet top) x depth 60cm x height 232cm The Transition style (circa 1750-1774), as its name indicates, marks the transition between the extravagence of the Louis XV period and the return to the more Classic style of Louis XVI. It is a return to straight lines, perfect symmetry and a respect for proportions.
