This magnificent French mid-19th century Napoleon III period free standing planter table exhibits detailed craftsmanship, a blackened wood jardinière with pen work inlay and finely chiseled gilt bronze mounts throughout.
The rectangular tabletop - lined with a removable zinc planter tray - features a highly decorative luxurious gilt bronze pierced gallery around the rim and a rich floral and geometric design etched on all sides centered by a chiseled gilt bronze mask sculpted in deep relief.
All raised on elegant scrolled cabriole legs, terminating in ormolu paw feet sabots, gathered by a stretcher bottom tier that can serve as a shelf. Each of the four legs are flanked by chased ormolu mount of a satyr and a male mask surrounded by foliate acanthus leaves patterns.
The shape of this Second Empire period or General Grant style planter table is simply gorgeous, great and useful scale, impressive chiseled gilt bronze details.
A wonderful black lacquered free standing piece of furniture that can be used as a flower or plants holder to spread a touch of color and perfume to any point of your home or as an original bar cooler cart or ice bucket.
