Exceptional and rare Italian sofa; the sturdy and elegant frame is made of fine and durable walnut wood; very refined is the shape of the backrest; interesting and particular is the seat, made with the workmanship of segmented stuffing with river straw, thus creating a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing surface; the frame is built with solid wood so that it can support with only four legs the oversized length of the sofa (see photo). The sofa was made between 1900 and 1905 in an artisan workshop on the Riviera del Brenta in the province of Venice, Italy, where there were several workshops of craftsmen specializing in the construction and processing of high-quality stuffed furniture. Manual stuffing is a very old technique used for the production of chairs, sofas, and other characteristic artifacts. To perform the stuffing of a chair or other object, several weaving techniques can be used, each of which allows for various decorative effects of the seat. One of the most widely used techniques is segmented stuffing: this is one of the most classic methods of weaving and is mainly done with river straw, which is a type of natural material obtained from marsh plants. The most common and widely used grass is "sedge," which grows wild along river courses or in marshy areas and canals. This rare and precious ancient art still exudes fascination and charm. The romantic beauty of a stuffed artifact gives any type of furniture a touch of warmth, evoking the atmospheres of yesteryear and giving the room a more cozy feel. On the wooden structure, we did not consider doing any restoration because its surface veiled patina and its small imperfections make it truly seductive and fascinating and attest to its antiquity and authenticity.
