Jorge Zalszupin Modern Jacaranda Wood and Concrete "Guanabara" Brazilian Table
€29.500,00
SOLD
Spectacular rare Dining Table model "Guanabara" designed by Jorge Zalszupin (Warsaw, Poland 1922) and edited by L’Atelier, a furniture design manufacturer in Sao Paulo (Brazil) founded in 1950s by Zalszupin.
This iconic table features an ovoid large top, made of jacaranda wood veneer using a patchwork-collage technique that allows a combination of different colours. A biomorphic concrete base cladded in its original cognac-colour leather, A thick metal structure supports the oval top. This is probably one of the nicest editions with one concrete base which serves as pillar for the main feature of the table, the patchwork jacaranda wooden top. Brazil, 1970s.
This piece was made during the Brazilian midcentury by Jorge Zalszupin. Originally born in Poland, Zalszupin built his entire career in Brazil, where he's absorbed many influences for his design, specially the care and attention for the treatment of the tropical wood.
Extremely elegant and at the same time very strong and full of character, the Guanabara table is one of Zalszupin's most important creations. The name is a reference to the famous Baia de Guanabara, a traditional postcard image of Rio de Janeiro.
