JACOB & JOSEF KOHN VIENNA MOST ELEGANT AS WELL AS RARE ARMCHAIR: ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEF HOFFMANN (1870-1956) OR TO GUSTAV SIEGEL (1880-1968) MODEL NUMBER 416 designed before 1905 Vienna, made circa 1905-08 BEECH WOOD / MAHOGANY STAINED MODEL ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEF HOFFMANN (1870 / Czechia - 1956 / Vienna): - world-famous architect (for example Sanatorium in Purkersdorf / Lower Austria & Palias Stoclet in Brussels) - designer of interiours (for example: Cabaret Fledermaus) as well as of furniture pieces and objects of daily use 1897: Josef Hoffmann was one of the founders of Viennese Secession | he and J. M. Olbrich were the most important architects there 1899 - 1937 Hoffmann was Professor at Viennese School of Applied Arts 1912: Foundation of Austrian so-said Werkbund (J.Hoffmann was member of it until the year 1920) OR TO GUSTAV SIEGEL (1880 - 1968), a well-known interior designer and architect, who had been engaged by Kohn manufactory as chief designer - on the recommendation of Josef Hoffmann. Gustav Siegel had designed for example a furniture set for living room and bedroom which was presented at Paris World Exhibition in year 1900. The chair we're presenting here was displayed in Milan (April 1906) as furniture for the Presidential Hall of the Chamber of Commerce of Lower Austria.
