We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. The pair consists of two elegant and slender Chinese console tables made of elm wood lacquered in glossy black; the legs are very simple, and at the bottom, they are folded inward in the Chinese tradition; each has three small but convenient drawers without handles to keep the whole design linear. These consoles were inspired by the Ming Dynasty, at that time this type of furniture was called "Lady's Wardrobe," these pieces of furniture can be seen in the Forbidden City in Beijing and were originally used in Chinese court bedrooms as ladies' makeup tables. Our consoles were made between 1960 and 1965 in the city of Hangzhou, Jiangsu Province, and were known for producing Ming and Qing-style furniture and renowned for producing writing, tea, and console furniture. In the early 1900s, traditional Chinese furniture styles were still prevalent in China and furniture featured intricate craftsmanship, however, after the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912 at the hands of the Xinhai Revolution, these major political, cultural, and social changes also had an impact on the furniture industry. Demand for traditional Chinese furniture began to decline, while Western-style influences and more modern furniture began to enter the Chinese market. Over the years there was a growing interest in adapting some elements of European design to Chinese furniture, creating a fusion of styles. Some Chinese furniture makers produced furniture that incorporated more linear and modern design elements influenced by European styles. This was especially common in large urban centers and among the more cosmopolitan elites. Our console tables belong to this last generation of furniture. Their symmetry and balanced proportions make them two valuable and versatile objects that can be inserted without difficulty into any type of environment giving the furniture an elegant and refined air; in addition, the beautiful and compact black lacquer finish makes them remarkably personal and suitable for both modern and antique environments; because of their size, they can be used individually or in pairs. The consoles are in good condition. Measurements (single) width cm.112, depth cm.25, height cm.90. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
