We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Exclusive and elegant Napoleon III style occasional table with two shelves with wavy sides joined by four giltwood legs; on the entire contoured perimeter of the two upper tops is an elegant pierced railing in gilt brass; the upper top has been painted by a skillful decorator with a delicate design of a bird in flight on plants and flowers, while the lower one has as decorations always plant with pretty flowers; another peculiarity of this coffee table is the material with which the two tops have been made, it is an unusual and original variety of wood: " the maple bird's eye". This work of art was created by a true master cabinetmaker perfectly and meticulously between 1860 and 1865 in a craft workshop in the town of Pont-de-Beauvoisin, a French commune in the department of Isère, nicknamed the city of furniture for its ancient tradition of woodworking. The master has achieved an object of amazing fineness, rigor of design, sharpness, and regularity; moreover, he has used maple wood by taking advantage of the different chromaticisms offered by this fantastic material. Maple is an ancient wood, a wood that has been known and used for a long time: it is semi-hard, extremely porous, with a delicate color that meets shades of yellowish and beige, with slightly darker inlaid veins that fade into pinkish. The grooves of color, the delicacy, and the unchanging beauty are characteristics peculiar to its wavy fibers, which create a vaguely striped optical affection, with a light and delicate color, varying according to light and its reflections. "Maple bird's eye" is a type of figure that occurs within sugar maples; it has a distinctive pattern resembling tiny swirling eyes interrupting the soft lines of the wood grain. The reason the Birdseye maple tree is so rare is because its pattern is unique and occasional and cannot be intentionally duplicated by humans. Woodcarvers, turners, and sculptors particularly appreciate maple wood, as it can particularly enhance the finer details. The coffee table is quite light in form and weight; this elegant art object can also be used as a nightstand or chiffonier. The object is in good condition. Measurements Width cm.55, depth cm.38, height cm.75. For all our shipments we use special packing materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
