We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Prestigious and iconic pair of Italian stools; massive square-section iron bars were used for the entire structure, the surface of the iron was finely decorated with carvings and arabesques, and the result was of strong decorative impact; the bars were joined together to form the design of the benches, which is pleasing and refined, elegant and aggressive; three leaf-shaped decorations were placed at the top of the legs; the whole structure was heavily gilded to give preciousness and brightness to the iron; the comfortable seat was reupholstered with an elegant and sturdy black velvet. The stools bear no identifying mark, but all their features make us more likely to attribute their design and execution to the famous designer Pier Luigi Colli. The stools were made in Turin between 1950 and 1953 by the Colli Company itself. Pier Luigi Colli (1895-1968) studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and returned to Italy in the 1920s to lead the old Colli family furniture company (founded in 1831). Influenced by Parisian style and Art Deco, Pier Luigi Colli created designs showing reinterpretations of these elegant movements. The Colli company had been active in Turin since 1850 and was famous for its woven carpets and lighting, including Seguso and Murano glass. Colli's creations uniquely combined materials such as iron, crystal, brass, glass, and wood, but the company is remembered precisely for its most prominent designer, Pier Luigi Colli. Colli's style is characterized by meticulous workmanship on the surfaces of objects; in fact, wood and metal are treated with minute geometric carvings, as well as knurls, engravings, and grooves. Especially popular with the public were the wrought and gilded iron furniture from which consoles, chairs, nightstands, and mirrors were made. The surface of the iron was worked meticulously under Colli's careful and scrupulous direction, and the result was highly decorative and high-quality products. His design, the qualitative excellence of his products, and his eclectic style were appreciated all over the world and still are today. Colli made a strong contribution to mid-century modern furniture design, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s. His designs, including gilded metal stools, are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century design. Upon Pier Luigi Colli's death in 1968, the company passed to his daughter Claudia, who led it until the early 1980s, when the business ceased operations.
