Particular pair of chairs in walnut wood; the seat is wide and very comfortable and the covering has been redone over time with a delicate embroidered cotton, the front legs are "cabriole" that is a design shaped in two curves, the upper one convex and the lower one concave; a shape known by the ancient Chinese and Greeks, back in fashion in Europe at the end of the 17th century, when it was incorporated into the more curvilinear styles introduced in England, France and Holland, The most interesting part of the chair is the elegant and harmonious "ballon back" back. The "balloon back" chairs were mainly made in the Victorian era, made by master cabinetmakers who often customized them with individual decorations, this type of chair was perfectly suited to most styles of the dining table, very solid quality woods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood were used, while the Australian version was made of cedar or Huon pine. Our pair was made between 1870 and 1875 in England and all the features make it a fine example of chairs "Balloon Back", the symbol par excellence of the Victorian era. Measures: Width cm.46, depth cm.43, height cm.90, seat cm.45.
