We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and distinctive French lamp made of ceramic and round black lacquered wood base; the main feature of this object is the craftsmanship of ceramic with the "craquelé" effect; the terracotta part was created by an original and old process: the piece of raw terracotta was first molded into its final, soft and elegant shape, then it was fired at about 1000°, then a cracking product was used to create the cracks, at which point the ancient technique of immersion glazing in transparent green enamel was used; the enameling stage requires a great deal of skill, as it is important that the enamel is evenly deposited on the surface of the object, so that the underlying cracks are raised and not covered; a second firing was then carried out to permanently fix the dye; the black lacquered wood base was applied to the finished object, and the electrical system was built.” Craquelure” in painting is the dense network of cracks that forms on the surface of paintings; it is often used to determine the age of a painting and thus uncover possible fakes. The decorating industry, towards the end of the eighteenth century, when the trend was to decorate with objects with a strong reference to antiquity, invented the aging technique of craquelure to offer it in the making of the most varied objects and materials such as ceramics, porcelain, and glass. The lamp was made between 1920 and 1925 in some craftsman's workshop in Tours in the Indre et Loire department where the famous old Sainte-Radegonde factory was located, specialized and famous precisely for the excellent production of glazed earthenware. The design is essential with bold and marked lines, on the whole pleasingly elegant and well-proportioned. The photos with the lampshade are only explanatory, the lamp is supplied without, so that everyone can choose the color in a personal way to match their decor. Measures diameter cm.18 height cm.40. The lamp is in good condition. The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, voltage compatibility in other states should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
