Sculptural wall lamp by Angelo Brotto for Esperia Italy, 1960s. Wall light in brass with a front of Murano glass. In a beautiful original condition. Dimensions: height 25.0 in. (63,5 cm), width 25.0 inches (63,5 cm) and depth 5.1 in. (13 cm). Art glass at the front: 8.0 in. x 8.0 inches (20,5 cm x 20,5 cm). The fixture is equipped with the original, regular (E27 26-27 mm (medium) Edison screw (ES). Max. 60 Watt. The electricity is used but in a good condition, approved to European standards. Works in the USA. Angelo Brotto (1914 - 2002), was a Venetian designer and artist. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 1941. In the 1960s and 1970s, Brotto became known for his special lighting designs in collaboration with the Italian company Esperia, he won many international prizes. Quote from Esperia's catalogue: 'Esperia was founded in 1952 in Poggibonsi, Siena. At first Esperia produced lighting fixtures for the bath environment, but starting in the 1960s the firm branched out across the whole technical lighting sector, thanks to remarkable structural and productive growth. During this period Esperia also began a fertile, lasting relationship with Prof. Angelo Brotto. The historical period of reference is the late 1960s, when the artist began to explore the idea of making works that could act as a point of contact between lighting fixtures and artistic compositions. These luminous creations, which have become symbols of Esperia in the world, were also the result of the company’s ongoing collaboration with important glassworks in Murano, such as Venini and Moretti. The light filtered through the often colorful irregular glass crystals, which seem like objects from outer space, makes these timeless works even more ethereal and surreal. The first expansions date back to this period, along with the debut of the company at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, with the participation at Euroluce in 1969, the first of a long series. Hesperia is the name with which the Greeks originally designated the western lands, in the direction of the sunset (vesper = evening). The name was also used by the Latin poets to indicate Italy. The brand achieved great international acclaim and began to explore new collaborations with leading exponents of the art of glassmaking, such as Venini.' The lamp is disassembled in parts for shipping but is very easy to assemble. Wall mounting guide: Fix the square fixture with the lamp socket to the wall with four screws. Then make the brass cross with two small screws. Mount the square glass to the brass cross with the two large screws and hang this on the two small hooks on top of the fixture.
