From thousands of simple beech rods patiently cut, sanded and arranged one by one, Pia Maria Raeder creates refined functional sculptures that evoke biomorphic forms. The 'Sea Anemones' floor light sculptures are the first lighting pieces ever produced by the artist. According to Pia Maria’s own words: 'These pieces are both floor lamps inspired by nature, and peaceful, softly beaming creatures with an endearing presence. They surprise us with a new appearance when you look at them from different angles.’ Every part of the lights is a reference to nature: the blown glasses are inspired by frozen crystals; the texturized structure of the bronze bases remind of tree barks and the lacquered beech rods of the heads are arranged like sea anemones. The breath of nature seems to animate these intriguing sculptures in which function and poetry fuse. Their magic presence is like the echo of nature’s murmur while their organic waves sketch the movement of life.
