Singular and iconic pair of polished steel chandeliers; from the top cone-shaped part several polished steel plates branch off, which reconnect in the lower part to a round plate forming a harmonious whole with a compact and functional design; they both have a single light point positioned at the top inside this cage; they are a typical representation of the Space Age style, two anthropomorphic elements suspended in space. The steel plates cleverly arranged next to each other give the chandeliers, even when turned off, an original and refined look; when the bulbs are turned on, the light spreads indirectly both above and below without glare, and the light passing through the spaces of the curved elements casts pleasant rays on the walls. The two chandeliers present a sophisticated form, at the same time minimalist and elegant, their design completely forgoing superfluous details and focusing only on the essentials where aesthetics are enhanced by careful workmanship and sturdy materials. The two objects were made between 1960 and 1964 in a craft workshop on the outskirts of Milan (Italy). The architecture of the two chandeliers is typical of the 1960s; in the continuity of the 1950s, 1960s design gives way to freedom and innovation. The design explodes in a variety of styles and movements, giving way to roundness, freedom of form and movement, lightness, and simplicity. Lamps of that period are characterized by essential volumes that recall geometric shapes. Curved, round, spherical lines are favored, definitively breaking with the rationalist tradition.
