Yellow (naples yellow) pendant lamp by Louis Kalff for Philips, Dutch 1950’s.
Dimensions: Height 23 cm x diameter 48 cm. The fixture is equipped with the original, regular (E26-E27) Edison screw lamp socket. Max. 40 Watt. Textile wire. Electric parts are in a used but good condition. Works in the US.
The architect and designer Louis Kalff (1897-1976) joined Philips in 1925. Kalff set out to modernize the visual image of the company straight away, by designing both advertisements and a range of electric products. In 1946 he was appointed as Philips’ chief designer and head of the lighting division. In this position he designed a large number of lighting fixtures.
This particular decorative model - ‘NB92’ as it was officially named - is hard to find, especially with an original undamaged plastic diffuser. This model, which can also be applied as a ceiling light, has only be produced in two colors: yellow and black (anthracite grey). Also in this sense we have a complete set, see the listing of the black one. A set of two of these lamps in different colors is virtually unique. Period 1950-1959.
Good, vintage condition, wear consistent with age and use, minor scratch (see last picture). Marked with the Philips label of the fifties.
