In his right hand he is holding the sign of the General Field Marshal. The horse is doing the 'Levade', based on an oval pedestal. SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF PRINCE EUGENE OF SAVOY (1663 - 1736): He was born in France as a grandnephew of cardinal Mazarin. As it was not possible for him to start his career in the French army, he became officer of the Austrian Imperial army. In the year 1683 he had taken part at the defense of Vienna against the Turks, shortly after his first experiences in important battles he became a chief officer in the Austrian army. - Prince Eugene's victory over the Turkish army in the battle of Zenta in the year 1697 is one of the most remarkable turning points in European history as well as a highlight in Eugene's career: He became generalissimo of the Austrian army then. - Eugene was not only one of Europe's most important commanders, but also a politician, being governor of Milano/Italy as well as of the Netherlands. Further he was administrator of the Italian estates of the Habsburg sovereigns.
