Ruins of a monastery courtyard. Signed and dated H. C. S. 1865. Harald Conrad Stilling (1815-1891) Watercolor on paper. Stilling was a Danish architect who was active in Copenhagen and made travels to Italy, Greece, and the Orient. Stilling became a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in 1858. He became a renowned watercolor artist and preferably painted architectural views from Italy. He studied under Gustav Friedrich Hetsch both privately and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art. In 1841 he received the C. F. Hansen Medal. He won the Academy's small silver in 1839, its large silver medal in 1840, its small gold medal in 1843, and its large gold medal in 1847.
