A very nice and charming carved gilt wood and faux painted malachite empire clock. Possibly Russian. Ça. 1820-30. The figure probably of the Greek goddess HYGIEIA. She was one of the daughters of the god of medicine Asclepius and his wife Epione. Hygieia was the godess/personification of health, cleanliness and hygiene. She was often depicted as a young woman feeding a large snake that was wrapped around her body or drinking from a jar that she carried. Nice surface worn original condition.
