Cacked Slip Roof Vase Handmade by Matthias Kaiser, 2019 Measures: Height 47 cm, 18,5 in A large sculptural vase. It is made from hand harvested Czech stoneware clay with a layer of porcelain slip that cracks and partially flakes off, due to a special firing technique. The making of the surface is very involved and includes treatment with iron ore, repeated grinding and polishing, as well as multiple high temperature firings. Parts of the shape are wheel thrown and other parts are built with coils, resulting in an architectural vessel with overtones of functionality.
