Exquisite French silver enamel table clock from the period circa 1900
Silver case with violet gouilloche enamel, porcelain dial with painted Arabic numerals, enameled floral decor and gold hands. Richly decorated with floral applications made of cast brass. Crowned by an old bearded angel figure holding up an 'Ouroboros', a circular self-eating snake. While the aged angel symbolizes the progress and transience of time, the Ouroboros stands for infinity and the eternal return and union of opposites, such as light/dark, day/night.
