This pair of Italian romantic terracotta eggs painted in the round on giltwood stands are a lovely decorative object, hand painted with extreme attention to details features putti and cherubs lying on white fluffy clouds in a blue sky.
A putto is painting, a cherub seems to compose a poem or lyric, a group of other cherubs shoot arrows at a target centered by a heart in a wonderful allegory of arts and love.
These delightful allegorical scenes, datable to late 19th century, are enriched with draperies, garlands of flowers, rosettes throughout and a shiny gold painted band at the bottom.
The eggs feature a convenient scale and are large enough to appreciate in detail the different variations of the painted scenes, turn them and you can enjoy a different view every time!
The antique painting has a glazed finish as a faux ceramic and a desirable cracquelure throughout, extremely good overall condition, the paint is stabile and the colors are bright and saturated despite the patina.
The eggs rest on a carved and gilded wooden pedestal.
