Important and sturdy pair of antique curtain hooks, we take the liberty of pointing out that we do not consider the definition "curtain hooks" to be exact, we will say rather inadequate when referring to the two objects under examination, we prefer to call them by their 18th-century French name "embrasse". They were made in pieces with perfect and elaborate bronze castings with rocailles motifs, leaves, and garlands of flowers, then assembled with skill and symmetry, the next operation was to have skilled craftsmen intervene to chisel them by hand in an accurate and meticulous way so as to bring out even the smallest details, the two "embrasses" were then gilded with the ancient method of "gilding with mercury vapours" (a very dangerous procedure for those who made it but of very high quality), which made the bronze take on the warm color of gold, over time an original patina has formed, making these objects even more precious and aesthetically involving today. The creation of two rare and exceptional works of art has fully justified this long and laborious craftsmanship. Being very sturdy and long, when fixed to the wall, they can also support very heavy and important curtains. Handcrafted in France between 1780 and 1790 in perfect Luigi XVI style. Measurements cm. 31 x 22 x 8.
