Plaster death mask of composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Piece made of stucco/plaster by the firm of the prestigious sculptor and ceramist Josep Maria Brull Pagès (1907-1955). It was made in the sculptor's workshop in Tivissa (Tarragona) and sold in his establishment in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. Distinguished by a great level of detail in the features, compared to other models on the market made from other pieces and not from the original mold. Dimensions: 22.5 cm. (height), 19 cm. (width), 11.5 cm. (thickness) After a long illness, Beethoven died on March 26, 1827 in his apartment in the "Schwarzspanierhaus" ("House of the Black-clad Spaniards") in Vienna. As soon as the young sculptor Josef Danhauser, who infinitely admired Beethoven's work, learned of the composer's death, he rushed to contact his friend Stefan von Breuning to ask permission to remove his death mask. Breuning agreed and Danhauser was given the opportunity to make a plaster cast.
